Program Guest Speakers

Florida Atlantic University’s Principal Rapid Orientation and Preparation in Educational Leadership (PROPEL) program hit the 2013 Spring Semester ground running with a series of district and university acclimated guest speakers.

On February 14th, 2013, PROPEL's Apprenticeship class hosted guest speaker Dr. John Pisapia, Professor of Leadership Studies from the Department of Educational Leadership and Research Methodology in the College of Education. In addition to teaching at Florida Atlantic University, Dr. Pisapia is a Fulbright Scholar at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a Scholar in Residence at the Chinese-American Center also in Hong Kong. Dr. Pisapia spoke on the principles and tactics in his 2009 book “The Strategic Leader: New Tactics for a Globalizing World” which the Apprenticeship class uses as its textbook. Following the lecture students were able to get a signed copy of “The Strategic Leader.”

Just a week later, on February 21st, 2013 PROPEL’s Action Learning class hosted guest speaker Dr. Desmond Blackburn, Broward County Public School’s Chief School Performance and Accountability Officer. In keeping in line with the Action Learning participant’s research project focusing on researching and providing recommendations for an issue posed by a client this, Dr. Blackburn presented the participants with problem scenarios to synthesize. In addition to participating in the Action Learning student’s research, Dr. Blackburn has previously worked with PROPEL as an Adjunct Professor, teaching the Leadership Two course during the first Cohort.
